Soda Bread

Soda Bread Recipe Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1 tsp caraway seed
  • 1 egg
  • approximately 1/2 cup buttermilk


  • Set the oven to preheat @ 375 F
  • Take a large mixing bowl
  • Add flour, sugar, baking powder and baking soda and mix well
  • Add butter and mix well
  • Add caraway seeds and raisins and mix well
  • Take a measuring cup(3/4 cup) , break the egg into the cup and add butter milk till full
  • Add the egg and buttermilk to the flour and mix well
  • Take the dough and shape into a round ball
  • Use a sharp knife to make a cross on the top of the dough, pour some melted butter in the cross
  • Place the bread in the oven to bake for 30 to 40 minutes until the crust turns golden brown
  • Remove the bread and allow it to cool
